Unit 1 - Uniqueness and Self Esteem
September - Mid October
We begin our year reminding ourselves of some of our strengths. We do this through choosing a variety of character words and writing poetry all about them. A few key quotes will also be discussed. The first is, "Everyone is good at something. No one is good at everything." With this, we talk about the ideas of perfectionism and have high but reasonable expectations for ourselves and valuing the talents that we possess rather than covet others'. The second is, "Not everyone will like me, but what matters is that I like myself." While discussing this, we remind ourselves that the most important thing is that you make choices that make you proud and that you can live with, understanding that not everyone may agree with those decisions (in the sense of making good choices to illustrate a strong character). We also will begin creating a book that will collect our work in guidance throughout the year. This resource manual will come home at the end of the year!
