Kindergarten Guidance - Feelings Exploration and Anger Management
During this unit, the children have been learning about each of the four major feelings (happy, mad, sad, scared). We have listened to books about feelings and examined facial cues to determine how someone feels. We also have talked extensively on the things that make us feel each way. We call these our "triggers" and will come up again as we transition into anger management. The students have made a short book filled with a feeling faces, ones they have drawn and one of themselves for each feeling. I am hoping to get these books assembled soon and sent home. If you would like to help me with them, please let me know!
This week (November 3rd), we will begin looking at anger a little closer. We will be watching a video that helps us identify our triggers, body cues, and coping skills for anger. The next two weeks will be spent practicing calming down with a variety of "Cool Down Centers." They will be practicing: scribbling it out, read a book, take some quiet time, counting to ten, building with legos, exercise, and more. A worksheet will come home to help you follow through with your child.
