4th & 5th Grade Guidance - Feelings Exploration & Anger Management
We begin this unit with a fantastic activity called a Feelings Spectrum. Here, students will be asked to gauge how often they have a variety of feelings. They then will categorize each feeling as a "Often, Sometimes, or Rarely" feeling. This is a great tool for you to use to jumpstart some discussion on their feelings!
We then will be jumping into anger management. Through a funny video, we will be identifying our triggers and bodily cues that tell us we may or we are angry. We will then spend time finding ways to cope with our anger in ways that are healthy and do not cause a problem for others. To do this, we use the Anger Rules to evaluate our ideas. The Anger Rules are "Do not hurt yourself. Do not hurt others. Do not hurt things." All of their projects will be recorded in their Guidance folder which will come home at the end of the year as it serves as a cumulative record of their learning during our guidance class. If you would like to read this folder, please feel free to find me during conferences and I will be happy to share it with you!
